Xmas Eve

Today I helped around the house getting things ready for tomorrow. Last night I had a migraine, so I am glad to be over that! Tonight the plan is to go to Mass with some friends of ours then back here for the traditional no-meat-dinner, then to the Stordy's house for a Christmas Eve Cocktail party and then back home by 11 to see what Santa left under the tree for us.

Mass was a bust, we didn't make it. I had to help mom with dinner prep and there wasn't enough time to get ready for church, so we skipped that part of the evening. My uncle came over and my dad, mom and I dined on a feast of seafood and pasta. This is a tradition with Catholics by having no meat on Christmas Eve and I think Italians have the 7 fishes as their dinner. All I know is that for the past 30 years, I haven't had meat on Christmas Eve. Dinner was great and over all too quickly, so we washed up and headed to the Stordy's for their party.

Once there, we mingled with the guests and of course I got to play babysitter for their 3 kids. Even though I was the only other child there, it didn't seem to matter how old I was. I was pushed aside and had to play with the kids. I didn’t mind too much cause their kids are well behaved, but it wasn't my idea of a good time. I sat on the couch with the kids and we watched the movie Elf. It was funny to see a movie through kids' eyes because they actually thought Santa was in the movie. The real Santa, that is.

Their daughter asked me why Santa wasn't wearing his glasses in one of the scenes. I had to tell her he only needed his glasses to read and they is why he wasn't wearing them. They also were under the impression that elves were real and that tights could keep you very warm in the North Pole.

The night went on and it was time for us to leave the party and head home to open gifts. This year I didn't really ask for anything major; just an external hard drive for my computer and a pair of Samba shoes. Other than that, it was fair game. I was more worried about the things I got my parents. I bought my mom a pink and orange cashmere sweater and a diamond circle pendant. For my dad, I bought him a hand blown water pipe. If you remember back to a blog I wrote in Nov, then you will know he was fascinated by them and though it would make a great gift.

We got back to my place and opened the gifts and I got what I wanted, actually I know I got the gifts because I had already picked them out, plus I got a few other things. My mom loved her gifts from me as well as the LCD TV my dad and I got her. My dad was in awe of the pipe, yet I still don’t' think he knows what it is really for.

All and all this was a good Christmas. It was just nice to be home with the family.

Peace,
DeMo
