The Hunt

This weekend I had some friends staying with me so they could find an apartment here in the DC area. They are moving from AL to DC and I have to say I did the move from the south to DC and what a huge difference that was. The major difference is the cost, which they are finding out by looking for an apartment within their budget.

In the south rent can tend to run on the lesser side, and you can get more space. Here in the DC area rent can run on the higher side, and you can get lesser space. So the probability of them getting a 2 bedroom on a metro (subway) line is pretty much out of the question, unless they are willing to sell an organ.

My first apt here was a 1 bedroom on the metro and ran about fourteen hundred a month with utilities. I didn’t think that was too bad. Now that same one bedroom is going for eighteen hundred a month. I only moved out in February. Talk about inflation! This is their dilemma, they want utilities included, but they do not want to have to spend every waking moment of the day to have to work to pay for it, oh yea, they do not want to live in the hood either.

One place they did find, they looked up and read some of the reviews. Most of the people complained about the noise, but it wasn’t about street noise or construction…it was about the scratching of the claws the rats made on the walls. AUGH! No thank you very much. Who is their landlord Willard?

My friends are on their final excursion looking for their perfect DC apartment. They leave this afternoon to fly back down south. I hope they are victorious in their search and can leave knowing they have a home to come back to in a few weeks. Otherwise, I may have some house guests for a bit longer than expected.

Peace,
DeMo
