Where Did I Parks My Sign
Not to give everyone a history lesson, but the name Tara is pretty synonymous with the South...hello "Gone With the Wind." Another name that people know, but may not pair with the South is Rosa Parks. As we all know Rosa died a few weeks ago, and the city of Atlanta wants to rename the road Tara Blvd to Rosa Parks. It is an honor to memorialize Mrs. Parks for what she did and her achievement for the advancement for civil rights, but what about the civil rights of those who did grow up in the South and where the name Tara means something to them?
This name change has created a huge stir with the locals. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution has a section called the vent where anyone can send in their opinion and it will be published. Now opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. Comments are being said like, they should name a park after her, or the Clayton Co. busline, or a building, or make a memorial. Some have asked why does Atlanta have to do anything because she is not even from Atlanta, she is from Alabama? Most of the people responding express they are offended by the name change, because the city is taking away their heritage by removing a huge part of their history.
In addition to the Rosa Parks comments, people now want to know how far Atlanta will go. It seems over the last few years Atlanta has been changing names of things to African Americans from the community. The airport was recently changed to a past major of Atlanta's name. Not sure why, he didn't invent sliced bread? One comment written was they should call Atlanta PCville, another asks when will their street be renamed to Snoop Dogwood Lane?
Has the name changing gotten out of hand and are we as a society trying too hard to please the masses? Why are we trying to cover up one heritage with another to sweep away the past. It just doesn't make sense. GA makes it's money off of tourism and people come to see the sites of "Gone With the Wind." Tara Blvd plays a big part of that history and most of the path people will take is Tara Blvd to see the historic homes and battle fields. I would think it would be kind of odd to drive down Rosa Parks Ave looking at confederate battlegrounds. But that's just me.
I'd say, if Atlanta wants to do something for Rosa Parks, make a statue, place it in a downtown park with a description of her accomplishments, and call it a day. Win-win and everyone goes home happy.

DeMo

Go Dawgs Go
This weekend the University of GA played GA Tech and man was it a good game. UGA had it's moments of awful plays, but in the long run they kicked the yellow jackets' ass in their own stadium! 14-7 was the final score as the Dawgs once again defeted Tech. But hey, you gotta give it to GA Tech, they did beat Miami!

Maggiano Gang
I met with my friends from Maggiano's tonight and damn if I don't miss them. I met them 4 years ago when I started working at Maggiano's. With open arms, these people welcomed me and befriended me without any questions. No matter what has been going on in our lives we have all stayed in touch and the funny thing is that none of us work at Maggiano's now, but without that damn place, we would have never met.
First we have Natasha and Trisha who were cocktail waitresses when I started working at the Magg. They were the resident hotties and the first to leave. Then there is Trexler, but his ass didn't show up tonight. No hard feelings for the Trex, I am sure he was sleeping off the night before. Trex was a bartender and worked with me up in banquets. He is a trip and a half and if his face wasn't red and sweat wasn't dripping off his head, then it wasn't a good night. And last but not least there is Charlie. I think he was 21 when I met him, or 20, but he looked all of 18. He started off as a food runner then moved to a server and into a bartender position. All of these people are good hearted and I know would be there for me no matter what.
We hung out at Fritti for a few drinks then headed to a bar for some dinner. We got there and ordered our drinks, well the ladies did, cause the guy seemed to be into them and didn't really care about me and Charlie. Then the bartender's helper came over and took our order. I ordered a Crown and Ginger, but they were out of Crown, so I went for Maker's Mark...they were out of that as well. I then ordered a Jack and Coke. The bartender took our food order and walked away, not 5 minutes later did he come back and ask if we were doing OK and if we wanted some food. We all looked at each other, like we were the ones confused. I said I guess we know were the Crown went.
The bartender's helper waited on our table for most of the time, but we found out that she didn't really work there, she was just "helping out." What she needed to help was her stomach which was flopping out from her sweater! Then Charlie said he noticed that the bartender was doing shots, so we ate and left and headed back to Fritti.
After a while we all said our good byes and made plans to see each other the next time I am in town. Damn I miss them already, but we stay in touch and the best part about having great friends is that you can go without talking for months and still have that bond like you just left them the day before.

Weekend Review
Friday I went to visit my Godson and his parents. Sounds so funny. Matt and Carla are doing well and Marcus is growing like a weed. He is about 24 inches long and is just about wearing 3 month old clothes. He is only a month old. So needless to say, he is a growing boy. I staid there for about 2 hours and held Marcus for an hour. All of which he slept in my arms, so it was nice because there was no crying and no pooping!
Later that night I met with some friends: Nick, Nicky, Jen, Justin, Scott, Jamila and Adam. We headed out to Atlantic Station for dinner, Atlanta's newest shopping center. It is a small town set on top of shops combined with condos and lofts. It is nice, but I am not sure if I would want to live there. Too many people coming and going in a small area and it is still in an area of Atlanta that is not the best part of town. The city had to create a new area code to fool people it is not the same old Atlanta they think it is. I mean who are they kidding. For the prices of the places you would think they were selling palaces made of gold. But it is a cool place to visit. Hell there is an IKEA there.
Well, we walked around and couldn't decide on a place to eat, so we headed to Chow Baby, a noodle house. This place is awesome!! It is an all-you-can-eat, make-it-yourself cheap-as-hell restaurant. We called ahead and they said we would be seated when we got there. Well, we had to wait about 45 mins when we arrived, so they offered us a free shot. Some of the members of our group did not drink liquor, so they asked for a beer instead, so we confused the people and cluster fucked that up. After talking to the hostess and the manager, we go the right drinks.
We all ate and did our trips through the line, but Jen was feeling sick, so she only took two bites of her food and basically sat there looking at her half bowl of rice. She wasn't feeling good, but she toughed it out and came out to be social (thanks Jen). As we were finishing our meal, Jen asked for a to-go box and they said no, because it was all you can eat. She felt bad because she wasting her money on the meal and then wasting the food because she only had 2 bites and if she knew she couldn't take it home, she wouldn't have gotten anything. Well, she started to get teary eyed, so I went to talk to the manger. After telling him what happened. He came over and not only let Jen take her food home, but they gave her a T-shirt.
Jen and Justin left before the rest of us, because Jen really wasn't doing well at all. Once we got the bill, Adam looked at it and he said the took some stuff off of it. I was thinking Jen's bowl, but it turned out our total bill was 60 bucks. We had 8 people plus they added the tip and it was $60.00. they only charged us for one dinner, $11.99 and then drinks, I think. Scott ordered 3 appetizers for the table and a few people had drinks, so we were thinking the bill should have been $150 with tip. We didn't complain about the extra beer they charged us for and gave the waitress and extra 20 bucks for tip and hit the door running. So all and all it was a good night.
Sunday, today, I am going to visit some friends I have known since I was 4 or 5 years old. Let you know how that was later. Then tonight I am hanging with my Maggiano friends. Can't wait for that!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble
Well it's Turkey Day, so Happy Thanksgiving...
Last night I hung out with some of my friends from the old fraternity. These are the guys who I met when I 1st went to GA State and who were the ones who 1st taught me the ways of being Greek. The funny part is I don't remember most of those nights. But, nonetheless, we all go together last night at, what else, a local bar for a few drinks. After saying our hellos and making our first conversations, we moved on to our next spot where we would have dinner and a few more drinks.
We went to an Irish pub for dinner and took over the back booth that was like a big conference table, but with beer. A few more guys joined us there and we began to reminisce about the old days and how much fun we had doing stupid things. Most of these guys I have not seen in years, so it was really cool to hang with them last night.
Most people say the being Greek is just buying your friends, but you know you just can't buy friends like this. After dinner we headed out to another destination, bar, and then we went to another for our final stop of the evening. When we were there, we saw 2 things that puzzled us.
The first, was a guy who was wearing a short sleeve shirt with a scarf. He had the scarf wrapped up tight, so he must have been cold. Once he took the scarf off, we noticed he had his collars up on his polo shirt. He looked like a total pussy! I thought that look had finally went way, oh wait it did in the early 80's after Judd Nelson went to rehab. FYI...flip your fucking collars down.
Then second, which was the best!!!, was this guy who had a hair cut I could only wish I had a picture of. Picture it; business in the front and a party in the back, yeah I know mullett. You're probably saying what's so "best" about that. Well this guy got his saying twisted. He thought it said Business in the back party in the front. He had this short hair cut with a mullett like swoop of hair coming down his forehead. He looked like a total dork! This fucker actually wanted his hair to look like that. Remember back in the day of rat tails and duck tails, now put them together and wear them between your eyes and that is what this guy had. Lord, can we say TOOL!
As the night was ending, we all had a great time and there were 2 thing that I hear this night that I will never forget. They are "meat curtains" and 'fat bags". Two terms I have never heard of before and two terms I will never forget.
Have a great Thanksgiving and remember what your thankful for. Great friends and great family is always at the top of my list.
Peace,

Dinner Guest
A buddy of mine is having a love affair from a far and tomorrow his long lost love will be coming for a holiday visit. This lady from a distance is the sister of a friend of his and he has this, some would say, abnormal crush on this girl. He has visited her at her home and that visit went well, but this is going to be the test visit.
The last visit was quick and she was preoccupied with other things, so her attention was not on him. This time she will be staying with her brother, and have nothing but time to spend with him. Thursday my friend will be spending Thanksgiving with her and her brother, so they will get to spend the entire day together. They will be able to talk, laugh, share and hopefully start something.
She lives in one state, he live in another and plans to move even further North. Is this something one should peruse or does love concur all? Distance is only a number and when it comes to love does it really matter how far one lives from another, or do you need more than just that feeling?
I have been in a long distance (324 miles to be persicise) relationship and that lasted about a year and a half. I was driving back to see her every weekend, and we talked all the time, so I guess that helped prolong the relationship. In the end, she was cheating on me and I guess she figured I would have never found out. Guess what, I did and we broke up. No time for cheaters in my life. If we lived closer to each other would she have cheated on me, could our relationship have lasted? I guess I would never know, but I am sure everything happened for a reason!
Thinking about all my friends and what has happened in their lives, it depends on the person and the situation. Some of my friends have concurred the dreaded long distance thing and some have raised the white flag and threw in the towel. As for my friend and his possible new relationship, I bid him good luck and hope it all works out. Finding someone special is tough and I guess finding someone near you is even tougher!

The Dead Nea
Here is the latest news on my knee. Yes, my knee is fucked, yes, my knee has been looked at by another doctor, yes, my knee is still causing me pain and YES, I WILL BE HAVING ANOTHER SURGERY!
My new doctor has looked at the most recent MRIs and told me the inside of my knee "didn't look good." I really wasn't thrilled with that explanation, but I guess his expert opinion was what I was looking for...Not Good. He said the meniscus looked damaged and should be repaired or removed. I could remain in physical therapy and see how that goes, or just have the surgery and see how that works.
He is leaving the option to me, but is stressing the surgery. He believes that will be my best option. When I have the surgery it is going to be like nothing I have had before. This surgery is going to be something very cutting edge and kinda creepy. He is going to give me a knee transplant by removing what is left of my meniscus and replace it with someone else's; a donor.
This donor, though, will have to be someone who is a match with me, has a perfect meniscus and oh yea doesn't need theirs any more. That's right they have to be dead! The doctor will be getting the meniscus from a cadaver. YUCK! But if it helps me walk and gets rid of all this pain I have in my knee, then sign me up. I'll get the transplant and suffer the pain of the surgery.
I go to the doctor in early December to ask all my questions about the surgery and about the risks, so I'll know more then. So for now, I am having another surgery on my knee and when it is all said and done, I'll have a new and working knee. The best part is that it will be an all natural replacement.

1st Weekend
The plane ride down to GA was extremely enjoyable. As we took off from National, I was able to finally see what Fall looked like. The sky was illuminated by the sun which was a burnt orange. The ground was filled with cotton balls colored of autumn. The trees had turned in such a way all we could see from the plane was a sea of reds, oranges, yellows and browns that I have never seen before. In combination with the setting sun, the Earth's changing scenery had a glow that made me think about how living in GA does allow you to miss out on certain season changes.
I am not saying that we don't have season changes in GA, or that the trees don't change, or you can't go to the mountains of GA to see the beauty of nature in change, but for me living south of Atlanta, that is Metro Atlanta, you kinda do miss out on a good part of nature.
As I look out of the window from my house, we have some trees with turned leaves, but for the most part we have pine trees. Pine trees have pine needles and those needles go from green to brown and that is about all the color we see. So for me to experience the abundance of color in one place at one time was such a shock to my system. I never knew how nice Fall could be.
Makes me appreciate those days as a child when my dad was able to rake up those piles of leaves for my to jump into. Ahh to be a child again!

Up, Up and Away
OK folks, I am off to GA today to spend the holiday with my friends and family. I'll be reporting my travels to ya, so check back to see what I get into while I am back in my home town.
Should be some fun and excitement going on in Hotlanta...well I guess Coldlanta.
Tonight, I am off to a fraternity initiation back at my home chapter Beta Kappa, GA State. Who knows what will go on. One thing is for sure, we will start late, end later and have a great time.
BTW, Got shitty news about my knee. Looks like I AM due for surgery and they are going to give me a knee transplant. More on that in days to come. And believe me it is not pretty!
Peace,
DeMo

Hump-day
I am getting so tired of all this ghost crap. One of my favorite shows right now is Supernatural, but on that show they are not talking to ghosts, or trying to help a lost soul. There are too many shows out there right now playing off that gimmick.
You have the Ghost Whisperer, the Medium and a few other ones that luckily never made it, good thing for Scott Wolf who is finding fame from Lost. Now to pour salt on our beyond the grave wounds, there is a made for TV movie with 90210 alum Tori, she wishes she can act, Spelling who is some kind of para-normal psychic detective who solves cases by seeing dead people.
I mean come on, are we that hard up for entertainment that we have to watch some movie that has been pieced together from 5 other shows. What has Hollywood become when they have to squeeze an idea down to its last drop. The funny thing is that this Spelling future award winner is going to be on Lifetime, so I guess they figure middle aged house wives are that desperate for no talented, uninteresting, over done television.
I do wish they would bring back 90210, now that was some great TV!
Peace,
DeMo
I am getting so tired of all this ghost crap. One of my favorite shows right now is Supernatural, but on that show they are not talking to ghosts, or trying to help a lost soul. There are too many shows out there right now playing off that gimmick.

Hello, today Madonna’s Album came out and of course I have it. It is great, wonderful spectacular, yadda, yadda, yadda. It really is a good CD and I would say pick it up.
I have been in a been mood the past few weeks and I guess it is because I get a little ticked at what I hear is going on at work. I know there isn’t too much I can do about it, but when the people I care about get shafted, or get looked over because of stupid reasons, I get ticked. Plus, people talk to me about there problems and I wish I could help them, but there isn’t much I can do for them, but to listen. And I guess that is really all they need is a friendly ear, but sometimes I just want to do more. So if any of you are reading this, I wish I could do more for you, but I can’t, but I am always here for you no matter what!
Did I mention Madonna’s new album came out today? In January I am heading to Charlotte for a fraternity conference. It should be a good time. This is going to be my 10th or 11th consecutive time going since I joined Pi Kapp. Like last year, I will be a facilitator and get to shape young minds in the way of Greekdome. No, not really, but we help these undergrads learn their roles as emerging leaders, and try to help develop them into becoming better role models for their chapters. I mean we are only there for a weekend; we are not creating the perfect man, just trying to help shape them.
This weekend UGA (9) played Auburn (15) and lost by one Fucking point. Now my dawgs are in 14th place and are probably out of reach of playing a bowl. They go up against Kentucky on Saturday. I hope they redeem themselves and kick some ass, like I know they can.
I was at the bar the other night and I was talking to this lady. I asked this normal question of how are you doing…and the answer I got was “my boyfriend broke up with me last week out of the blue.” Then like a crack in the damn the flood water started to pour out! She went on and on about how she didn’t see it coming and how she was so into him. How she was so in love and she couldn’t believe he broke up with her. That she had to go to her parents’ house in Florida to get away and she hopes that she doesn’t see him tonight while she is out. After 20 mins of this I looked to my buddies for some sort of relief. Luckily the UGA game had just finished and we were ready to go! We said our goodbyes and I said my apologies to this lady and we quickly got the hell out of dodge.
I could not believe she would unload her misery on a stranger like that. Granted her X-boyfriend is a friend of a friend of mine, but I really didn’t know this chick. I wonder how many other unsuspecting men she blindsided with her story of break-up hell.
Well have a good day, my mood just changed from bad to really pissy!!!!!!! Funny how that happens when you see a person.

Vet Day
So I am at work today and there is nothing going on. The Government is off, and since my customer is the government the phone has been dead and the emails are nonexistent. The day has been good for catching up on old emails and researching stuff I needed to find, but the main thing I had to do today was my MRI.
Yup I had to get another MRI on my knee. The one I just had surgery on not but 4 months ago. Things are not going too smoothly with the knee, so I went to a new doctor to see what he had to say and he gave me 2 options.
1) Go another month in physical therapy and see how the knee feels after 4weeks. As well get the MRI. If things do not improve then in Jan open the knee up and see what is wrong and repair it if needed.
2) Just go ahead now and open up the knee and see what's wrong.
I went for option 1, since I am heading home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now you're probably asking, why get an MRI if they are going to open you up. The MRI is going to be compared to the one I had in July and see if they can see anything torn and sticking out now that would be causing my current pain. If they can see something, then it would make the surgery that more just. If there is nothing they can see in the MRI they will be cutting me open and going in blind looking for a possible solution for the pain.
Hopefully they will see something in the MRI because I am tired of all this shit and need some type of good news, no matter what it is. Oh and when I say cut me open and, open me up, the incision is only about 1/3 of an inch long. So it is not that bad.
I'll know more in early December when I see my doctor again. Until then, I am off to physical therapy. Oh to be young again.
Peace,
DeMo

Color Wheel
I was watching this show on the TVOne Network yesterday, and it was a group of people discussing the placement of blacks on TV. More specifically, what blacks should watch on TV and why they should be watching what these people say. For those who do not know TVOne is a TV network geared to blacks.
This panel of “experts” was discussing shows and how great the UPN network was because they featured mostly black programming during primetime hours. The panel urged black views to spend most of there viewing hours watching this network more than the others because it was “black friendly.” They were discrediting the other networks because the black to white ratio was not 50:50 or greater. Then they said that most black show do not have a TV life of anything greater than 6 years. I guess there is a show called Sister that is going on its 7th year and that is a huge deal? But there are plenty of other shows on other networks that do not make it to 5 years, hell ask Chris O’Donnell about his new show. Oh, wait you can’t because it never made it past 5 episodes.
It seems this panel was trying to use the race card to discredit all other show and only say the shows that were all black inspired were worth watching. If the cast was not all black, then the creator had to be black for this panel to give it an OK. Grey’s anatomy was the only show I heard them give a nod to because the creator was black. Being that the creator was black; the characters of the hospital chief, one of the chief residents and the lady in charge of the interns are all black. They said these characters are black because they creator was black and that is the only reason blacks had such an important role in that hospital. Now is am not going to run down shows where blacks played characters in high ranking positions, but Dr. Benton (played by a black man) on ER was not only a Resident, but he was a key player on the show. These characters they are talking about on Grey’s Anatomy, however important in a real hospital, are only second players on the show. The real characters are the interns, which non are black, even though the creator is.
After watching this show I began to think, and think, and think. Do people really watch show because of the characters and plots and story lines, or it is just the people who are displayed on our sets. Are we that superficial that we have to watch a show based on how many Caucasians, blacks, Asians, etc are on a show? I know when I watch a show it is because I am interested in what I am seeing and not who is playing the character or who created the program. If that were the case, then I doubt I would watch TV at all. I mean, how many shows do you see with Italians on them. Hmmm…I guess I could watch the Soprano’s, but I think I would get sick of watching gangster movies, since that is all we Italians get cast for. Just a thought about what and how we watch TV. Some people study the shows, other of us just watch for enjoyment, who are you?

If at anytime you were laughing at my Madonna crap and how I enjoy the Queen of pop, then you are going to piss yourself laughing at this one! I have a friend; let’s call him Scott who is going to a party tonight. Now that is not too funny. The funny party is this is a themed party. Now you can think all sorts of cool and exciting themes for parties like aloha or toga or even something over done as pimps-n-whoes, but he is going to an OC party tonight.
The OC, for those who live under a rock, or who might be too cool to watch the FOX network, is at TV show about some kids who live a privileged life in Orange County, thus the OC, and seem to get themselves in trouble every week. The show has been off the air for the entire baseball playoff season and World Series, so tonight is the first time back on its regular night.
My friend “Scott” will be going to this party to watch eagerly as the show premiers after its weeks of hiatus. Now I have to admit, I have watched the show, but I have never thrown a party to celebrate the show, nor would I have gone to a party to watch the show. I mean it’s not like this is Twin Peaks and there isn’t any cherry pie around. Well, have fun my friend I call “Scott” and report back what happened at your party because we are all dieing to know what goes on at one of those things.
P.s. a guy is throwing the damn thing…

What A Day
Today I shredded paper. I put out a few fires a wok, but for the most part I shredded papers. We have three boxes of old papers that needed to be shredded, so that is what I did today. Not to complain, but see what a Master’s Degree gets you; three boxes of paper and one massive paper shredder. I was only able to get through one box of paper before I had filled up two thrash cans with the confetti pieces of paper. One down, two to go. Thank God we have a clean up crew that comes in here every night because I made a mess. Those little paper shreds get every where.
Just to fill you in on how much paper I shredded, the shredded got tired and needed a break. After I finished one box, the shredder would not shred another piece of paper. It was like on strike. I had to wait about 30 mins before the damn thing would work again. Guess I worked it too hard. Lucky for the shredder, I ran out of trash cans or else I would still be shredding. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

I am so over it. Have you ever just been in one of those moods where you just say fuck it!? That is where I am right now. I am getting fed up with some of the shit I see around me and I feel like there is nothing I can do because I know I’ll be the one who gets it in the ass. So, you just sit there and watch the bull shit happen and what was a happy circle of life turn into a cluster fuck. Then to top it off my damn knee is still hurting and I only have 2 more visits to the physical therapist. You would think after 8 weeks of that shit I would have some progress, but nope; still in pain. Thank God I am not addicted to pain killers cause I sure as hell could become a junky.
Its funny when something great in your life happens, why does it always have to be followed by such shittyness? It seems that is my life though. No matter the situation, when some good may happen, here comes the bad, but in this case it seems the bad keeps building and the dam is about to break. The funny thing is I am no alone with this situation. There are quite a few people who are feeling my pain on this one.
I can’t really say what is going to happen, but if things don’t improve there are going to be changes around here and I doubt some of the population is going to like it. The next few weeks are going to be pretty interesting to say the least.
