New Year, New Blog
I know it has been a while since last I posted, but I hope you all had a great holiday. I went back to GA to spend time with my family and friends for Christmas. I had it all planned out. I would spend a week visiting and having a great time down there. Little did I know I was going to get a gift from Santa a day early.
I arrived in GA on Wednesday and spent the day with the folks and shopping for last minute Christmas gifts. Throughout the day I was complaining of how my back was hurting in the spot where I previously had surgery. About 7 years ago I had a cyst removed from my lower back, top of my ass/ tailbone. It was a horrible ordeal and I had to drop out of college for a quarter because of the surgery. Then after the open wound healed up, it was actually infected inside and the area had to be removed again. It took about a year for my back to heal. So, now that I am feeling some pain back there I am getting worried.
Saturday, I went to spend the day with Remi, Karla and my Godson, Marcus. I had such a great time playing with the not-so-little guy, but still in the back of my head it could not muffle the pain that was stemming from my back. I spent the day with them and headed back to the folks' house 'round 10pm.
Sunday, I woke up and I was hurting, big time! I told my mom I woke up numerous times during the night and I was thinking of going to the ER. She said I was not going to ruin her Christmas and that I was not going. Now I knew she was kidding, but deep down, I did not want to screw up our plans by me going to the ER. Around 1 I dropped the bomb and told the folks I was heading to the ER. The pain was becoming too unbearable.
Once signed into the ER, I waited about an hour and a half before I was brought back into a room. Thank God one of the first things they did was to give me a pain killer in my iv. They poked and prodded me and stuck things where things shouldn’t have been stuck. Then for a final check they did a CAT scan on me. They found out I have a fracture in my coccyx. The funny thing is I have no clue how I did that. All I know is that it hurts like hell.
I ended up staying in the ER for over 9 hours and the family had Christmas eve dinner without me. I ate on the way home from the ER, all doped up, at Waffle House. So needless to say I fit right in. The rest of my stay in GA was basically lying on my side and taking my pain meds. I had to be medicated for my flight back to DC in order for me to sit on a plane for 2 hours. That was a fun flight, let me tell you. I got to ride in a wheelchair in both airports to and from the gates because I couldn’t walk.
I have spent the past week popping pain pills, going in and out of medicated dream worlds and just found out that in addition to the fracture I have arthritis there as well. So the pain I have been feeling will last not only for the next 3 or so months, but possible for the rest of my life. This was such a great Christmas.
Right now I have to sit on a foam ring, donut, I can’t walk, can’t sit for long periods of times and sleeping is not fun at all. I am not sure how long I will be able to stand this. Well, the year of 2007 is starting off with a bang for me. I hope your year is starting off better than mine.
Peace,
DeMo
