Flashback

This past Saturday the town of Ballston was home to the annual block party called Shamrock Fest. This is an outdoor block party with live bands, rides, food carts and most importantly beer trucks.

The city closes the streets around the local mall and local folk gather to listen to bands, drink beer and have a good time. The festivities started at noon and went on till 8ish. It was our intention to get there bout 1ish, but I got a late start due to my evening at the old folks concert the night before and the cab we called took almost an hour and a half to pick us up.

Once we go into the party, there were a ton of people dressed in green, since it was a pre-celebratory party for St Patty’s Day. All that was missing was the green beer. I went to there with Mara and Jim, but we met up with a buddy of Jim’s and his girlfriend. I was meeting my physical therapist and a few others from the PT clinic. Mara was also meeting some of her coworkers there, so all and all we have a pretty big group with us.

As fate would have it, the people I was meeting had to leave early for dinner plans and the rest of the PT folks I never found, so my group was out. Mara’s coworkers just stayed in the spot, so we ditched them and after the sun went down Jim’s friends left because the girlfriend got cold. At the end it was just me, Mara and Jim, and we stayed till they kicked us out.

We headed back to Jim’s friend’s place, Mara went home and Jim, his friend, Bray, and I headed to the bar. We went to Dr. Dremo’s for some beers and awesome Nachos. We stayed there for a while. Bray was the first to leave and Jim and I had a few more beers until the conversation died. We were both slipping into beer comas.

We headed out looking for a cab and Jim wanted Wendy’s, but as anyone who has been drunk and walked into a drive thru knows, you have to be in a car for the drive thru to take your order. We saw a cab in the drive thru, so we waited for him to finish getting his food and we hopped in. I think the cabbie was pissed, cause he wanted to eat, but we didn’t care. He had him take use back through the drive thru, so we could place our order. We were going to get out after we placed the order so we could eat, but we just had him take us back to Jim’s.

Once at Jim’s, we ate out Wendy’s and watched TV. Modern Problems was on HBO, so we watched that and Jim began to tell me how that was the 1st rated R move he saw when he was a kid. His friend’s mom snuck them into the movie. He told the friend’s name, but I don’t remember at this point in time. Once he finished we watch the movie a bit and then he began to tell me about the first time he saw this movie and how it was the 1st rated R movie he saw. I know I was drunk, but I swear I thought I just heard this story. I sat there and listed like it was a new story. Once he finished, we watched a bit more until he began to tell me the story about how this was the first time he had seen this move and it was the first rated R movie he had ever seen. OK, by this time I knew I had heard it. He had no clue had was telling the story over and over. By the time we were passing out, he had told me the story of him seeing this move 5 times. Good story didn’t need to hear it five times.

Well, that was my Saturday night. I guess that will get me ready for the real St Patty’s Day. I can’t wait for Friday. More drinking and debauchery will be at hand. Have a great weekend what ever you do. Be safe and take care.

Peace,
DeMo
