Kentucky Fried Duck?

4-legged duck puts best foot forward in Britain (AP)

Webbed feet run in Stumpy's family, but he's the first to have four of them
.
A rare mutation has left the eight-day-old duckling with two nearly full-sized legs behind the two he runs on. Nicky Janaway, a duck farmer in New Forest, Hampshire, 95 miles southwest of London, unveiled the duckling to reporters on Saturday.

"It was absolutely bizarre. I was thinking 'he's got too many legs' and I kept counting 'one, two, three, four,'" Janaway said.

Stumpy would probably not survive in the wild, but Janaway, who runs the Warrawee Duck Farm in New Forest says he is doing well.

"He's eating and surviving so far and he is running about with those extra legs acting like stabilizers," Janaway said.

The mutation is rare, but cases have been recorded across the world. One duckling named Jake was born in Queensland, Australia, in 2002 with four legs but died soon after.

I just want to know, when are they going to start to make turkeys, chickens, and buffalos with extra legs. You know we can always use more drumsticks on them!

Remember When

This week in 1984 is when the Jackson's, yes that is Michael and his brothers, were filming their commercial for Pepsi when his hair caught fire. Remember the good old days when Wacko Jacko was disfigured by accident! Ahhh the good ol' days.

Only in the Movies

I was reading the Sydney Morning Herold, cause I like to see what goes on in the world, and they found a stroy out of our neighboring country Canada. Here is what they reported...

Police searching the home of a Canadian pig farmer found the severed heads, hands and feet of two women hidden in a freezer, a court heard on Monday at the start of one of the world's most grisly murder trials.

"In each case the head had been cut in two vertically," prosecutor Derrill Prevett told the court at the start of the trial of Robert William Pickton, who has been accused of the murders of 26 women in Canada's worst serial killings.

With the skulls were the left and right hands and the front part of the left and right feet, Prevett said.

The body parts were found inside two white five-gallon plastic pails in two freezers in the workshop of Pickton's farm in Port Coquitlam, 50 kilometres outside western Vancouver.

Pickton, 57, has pleaded not guilty to the murders of six women for which he went on trial on Monday. He is due to stand trial later on charges of killing another 20.Prevett told the court: "[The prosecutors] intend to prove the murders of these six women were the work of one man, the accused.

"The Crown intends to prove he murdered them, butchered them and disposed of their remains," he said. All six victims were drug-addicted prostitutes, and DNA tests and dental records were used to identify the remains as those of Sereena Abatosway and Andrea Joesbury. They both had gunshot wounds to the heads.

Police also searched the grounds, digging down several metres, and found animal and human bones and teeth.

In one room in Pickton's trailer, police found a .22 calibre gun, which had a dildo attached to the barrel. Both showed traces of DNA belonging to Pickton and another alleged victim Mona Wilson.

Pickton was arrested in 2002 and has appeared before the courts several times. But a gag order barred any publication of the details of the case in order to ensure an impartial jury.

Justice James Williams of the British Columbia Supreme Court last year warned the trial would be like sitting through a horror film. Prosecutors told jurors during opening arguments that Pickton confessed to killing 49 women and intended to kill one more to make it an even 50.

You know sometimes life is better than fiction. I'd say there would be a movie deal in this story, but I think there has already been a horror flick made about this. Just pick one.

How to Infuse Vodka With Flavor
Infusing your own vodka is the best way to add a twist and have a story to tell with every cocktail when entertaining. With plenty of your favorite vodka, a jar, some fruit, a discriminating palate and spare time, you can customize your vodka and make it your own.

Steps

  1. Choose a Flavor. Decide how you want your vodka to taste, and get plenty of the desired fruits, berries peppers or herbs.

    • If infusing fruit, use 1-3 good sized fruit.

    • If infusing herbs, use 1-2 fists filled of the herb (depending upon the potency of the herb).

    • If infusing berries, use 2-4 fists filled with the berries. You may also want to bruise (squish a little) them first.

    • If infusing peppers, use as many as you want. The more you use and the longer you infuse, the spicier the vodka will be.

  2. Preparation. Wash and slice the fruits (this will speed up infusion by increasing surface area). However, leave berries whole. Place all of your ingredients together in an airtight sealed container. The relative proportions of each ingredient (if you're using more than one) are a matter of personal preference.

  3. Infuse! Fill the container with vodka, seal it, and put it some place safe and away from direct sunlight.

  4. Wait a week or two. The timing isn't scientific but at least wait five days. Generally, citrus fruits or strongly flavored ingredients might infuse in less than a week, but softly flavored or fibrous ingredients (strawberries, pineapple or fresh ginger) may need up to two weeks. Luckily, you need not do anything but ignore the jar.

  5. Sample and enjoy! The first few batches you make may not taste the best, but over time you will get the hang of it. Drink, adjust, and try again!

Tips

  • Start with cheap vodkas, as you will probably make mistakes through trial and error before getting it right.

  • There's a wide variety of fruits and herbs you can infuse with, each with their own characteristics. Experiment and enjoy.

    • Mellow: cantaloupe, peach, strawberry, cherry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, pineapple, mango and vanilla beans

    • Sharp: lemon, lime or grapefruit

    • Bold: fresh ginger, lemon-grass, herbs, garlic or chili peppers

  • If you find your infusion too strong, dilute it with more vodka and allow it to infuse a little longer.

  • Try 2 sticks of cinnamon and half a vanilla pod. After two weeks you will get a deep orange colour and a full, rich spicy flavour. Try it with homemade Ginger beer in the summer - superb.

  • Adding a sprinkle of sugar on the fruit can enhance and speed up the infusion process, especially if your creations are turning out to be a little too weak in the flavour department.

  • Another spirit that infuses well is Cachaca, a Brazilian rum made from pressed sugar cane.

  • In Sweden, infused vodkas are known as schnapps, and a customary part of the Christmas smorgasbord.

Warnings

  • Chutney, kiwi and apple are probably best avoided as an infusion ingredient.

  • If you are displaying your infusion jar, be prepared for the color to leave the fruit over time. Thus your strawberries may turn a ghostly white!

Things You'll Need

  • 750mL - 1L Vodka.

  • Infuser (Fruit, peppers, herbs, berries, etc.)

  • Jar with airtight sealing lid.

  • Time.

Things to See

Since I have had some time on my hands, I have watched a few movies. I thought I would pass along a review just incase you were looking for something to watch this weekend.

1. Snakes on a Plane – 2 HUGE thumbs up. I loved this movie. It was a thriller/drama/comedy all in one. Granted, I don’t think they intended it to be funny, but when you jump at some of the parts you can’t help to laugh at yourself for getting scared by these little snakes. The snakes in parts look fake and rubbery, but then how they killed the people was AWESOME! Ok, yea they bite’m to kill them, but boy do they bite’m. This is a sure fire hit in my book.

2. The Descent – This movie must have been a good sleeper hit. On the horror side of films, but this one is more of one where the people actually kick some ass instead of being stupid while being attacked. A group of women go cave diving and run into creatures who lives in the caves…what happens next, well let’s just say the women turn into fast food. Well, fast is a relative term. It all depends on how fast they run. This is a good movie if you like to see a good horror flick.

3. Little Miss Sunshine – Really good movie! This is more of a journey movie, where you have to get on at the start and take it for a ride. The end is laugh out loud hell-eye-arious! This movie is a must see, if you like Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear or the little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin.

Please keep in mind I viewed all these movies while on my pain meds, what I though was funny, scary or good, might just suck. So if you watch these movies and think they suck keep this in mind.

Have a good one and my ass is still killing me, just incase anyone cares.

New Year, New Blog

I know it has been a while since last I posted, but I hope you all had a great holiday. I went back to GA to spend time with my family and friends for Christmas. I had it all planned out. I would spend a week visiting and having a great time down there. Little did I know I was going to get a gift from Santa a day early.

I arrived in GA on Wednesday and spent the day with the folks and shopping for last minute Christmas gifts. Throughout the day I was complaining of how my back was hurting in the spot where I previously had surgery. About 7 years ago I had a cyst removed from my lower back, top of my ass/ tailbone. It was a horrible ordeal and I had to drop out of college for a quarter because of the surgery. Then after the open wound healed up, it was actually infected inside and the area had to be removed again. It took about a year for my back to heal. So, now that I am feeling some pain back there I am getting worried.

Saturday, I went to spend the day with Remi, Karla and my Godson, Marcus. I had such a great time playing with the not-so-little guy, but still in the back of my head it could not muffle the pain that was stemming from my back. I spent the day with them and headed back to the folks' house 'round 10pm.

Sunday, I woke up and I was hurting, big time! I told my mom I woke up numerous times during the night and I was thinking of going to the ER. She said I was not going to ruin her Christmas and that I was not going. Now I knew she was kidding, but deep down, I did not want to screw up our plans by me going to the ER. Around 1 I dropped the bomb and told the folks I was heading to the ER. The pain was becoming too unbearable.

Once signed into the ER, I waited about an hour and a half before I was brought back into a room. Thank God one of the first things they did was to give me a pain killer in my iv. They poked and prodded me and stuck things where things shouldn’t have been stuck. Then for a final check they did a CAT scan on me. They found out I have a fracture in my coccyx. The funny thing is I have no clue how I did that. All I know is that it hurts like hell.

I ended up staying in the ER for over 9 hours and the family had Christmas eve dinner without me. I ate on the way home from the ER, all doped up, at Waffle House. So needless to say I fit right in. The rest of my stay in GA was basically lying on my side and taking my pain meds. I had to be medicated for my flight back to DC in order for me to sit on a plane for 2 hours. That was a fun flight, let me tell you. I got to ride in a wheelchair in both airports to and from the gates because I couldn’t walk.

I have spent the past week popping pain pills, going in and out of medicated dream worlds and just found out that in addition to the fracture I have arthritis there as well. So the pain I have been feeling will last not only for the next 3 or so months, but possible for the rest of my life. This was such a great Christmas.
Right now I have to sit on a foam ring, donut, I can’t walk, can’t sit for long periods of times and sleeping is not fun at all. I am not sure how long I will be able to stand this. Well, the year of 2007 is starting off with a bang for me. I hope your year is starting off better than mine.

DeMo
